Connecticut Twilight League Playoffs:
Winners Bracket Semi-Final: #6 Seed East Hartford Angels 0 – #2 Seed Bristol Knights 2
The Bristol Knights pulled off an exciting win in their first game in the 2015 CTL Playoffs last night (8/5). The Knights faced off with the East Hartford Angels who arguably have the best offensive lineup in the league. The Angels were also the team that Bristol faced and beat in the 2014 league championship series. Matt Niedzwiecki got the start for Bristol and he was dominant from the beginning. Matt didn’t allow a hit until the 5th when Dan Scully slapped one into right field. Matt answered by picking him off and Marco Ross tagged him out in the ensuing pickle with Rick Barrett. Niedzwiecki went on to pitch a complete game, 2 hit shutout while racking up 15 strikeouts. This was one of the most dominant performances in league history, and against a good team. On Monday, the Angels just scored 16 runs on the #3 seed Brickhouse Indians and their ace Albert Pienkowski. The game never had much breathing room though as the Angels Mike Riley pitched very well on the other side, limiting the Knights to 6 hits, and always being in striking distance with the score so tight. On offense for Bristol, Brian LaRochelle had 2 hits with an RBI, Eddie Dickman had 2 hits with an RBI, and Steve Clout had a hit and run scored.
The Knights move on to the Connecticut Twilight League Winners Bracket Final at Rotary Field in South Windsor on Monday 8/10 at 6pm. There, the team will face off with the #5 seed Willimantic Ridges.
